Studio Equipment List

Here's where the magic used to happen. Since moving to study at the National Film & Television School in Beaconsfield the studio space has been converted into more rooms for my parent's B&B, however, I still own and occasionally use all of the equipment listed below.

Hardware

Macbook Pro - With 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8 GB RAM and a solid state hard drive.

Glyph 250GB Professional Audio Hard Drive and USB and Firewire Hub.

2 x Custom built 350GB hard drives connected via Firewire 800 cables. One for samples and one for backup.

Another custom built 250GB (ex mac) hard drive as a secondary backup drive.

Digidesign Digi 003 Rack+ - Input and output interface and pre-amp. It has 8 x XLR mic in sockets, 8 x DI sockets (1/4 inch TRS/TS), 14 x direct output sockets, 1 x MIDI input socket & 1 x MIDI output socket.

MBox 2 Pro - Input and output interface and pre-amp. It has 2 x XLR mic in sockets, 2 x DI sockets (1/4 inch TRS/TS), 1 x MIDI input socket & 1 x MIDI output socket.

Behringer BCF 2000 - Mixing desk with motorised faders, transport buttons, as well as mute and solo buttons for each track.

Peavey 16FX mixer - Perfect for capturing your fantastic live performances (with on board effects processors and the breathtaking Silence pre-amps that Peavey are so famous for).

Korg microKEY midi controller keyboard - 37 keys

M-Audio Oxygen 8 V2 midi controller keyboard - 25 keys (daisy chained with microKEY to make a 2 tiered 5 octave keyboard).

Korg nano PAD midi controller. 12 pads Ideal for drumming (again daisy chained with microKEY to make the mother of all midi controllers).

POD 2.0 classic guitar amp & FX simulator for a beautiful latency free guitar recording.

Korg KAOSS Pad 3 - Ideal for some crazy FX processing and really cool sampling techniques.

Native Instruments Maschine Mikro - Sampler (similar to the Akai MPC range except it uses software and looks funkier). It's great for making beats, especially hip pop production.

Tascam DR-40 (with wndjammer and 'handle recording pack') for portable audio sampling.

Rycote Wired A5 News Boompole - Ideal for location sound recording.

ART 16 XLR - Patchbay

Behringer ULTRAPATCH PRO PX2000 - Patchbay

2 x M-Audio Audiophile reference monitors.

2 x Visual monitors

Software

Mac OS 10.6.8 - Operating System.

Pro Tools 8 (although looking into upgrading to 9 soon) - Digital audio workstation.

Reason 6.

IK Multimedia TRackS 3 Mastering Suite.

Mics

Sontronics STC-2

Large diaphragm condenser mic. Used for vocals in the vocal booth.

Sennheiser Evolution 606

Medium diaphragm dynamic mic, I tend to use it for the vocoder but it's good for close amp miking but it's also a good alternative to a ribbon mic.

Shure SM57

Small diaphragm dynamic mic. Good for rough takes, percussion or overhead miking.

2 x Samson CO2s

Small diaphragm condenser mic. Ideal for accoustic guitars and stereo overhead miking. Comes with 2 pop guards if needs be (I'll be using these for the podcast).

AKG D112

Large diaphragm dynamic mic perfect for bass guitars, wind instruments or anything else with high sound pressure levels (SPL).

Rode NTG 2

Shotgun microphone perfect for location sound recording.

IK Multimedia's ARC 2 Omnidirectional Microphone

Ideal for recording the ambience of the surrounding room for acoustic instruments such as pianos, drums and acoustic guitars.
